Holmdel, NJ - 9/96

These aren't pictures of Styx themselves, but a bunch of Styx listees that met over the internet. It was the first time a bunch of us ever met face to face. Prior to the Holmdel, NJ show in 1996, we all met at Homdel Park for a pre-show picnic. As an "ice breaker", I put together a Styx-related game, hoping it would make the face-to-face meeting a bit easier. Each group was "on tour" and had to move through the scheduled tour dates by answering Styx-related questions. Well, we had a blast! Even the park ranger had to come over to watch - he was highly amused!

The gameboard itself was put together at the last moment. I later decided I'd like a "blue" board, so I re-created the board in the 2nd edition (a picture of that version is on the Today Show page). I added a "name that Styx tune" category, as well as the "challenge" cards. That version has gone to parties and has become a real conversation piece.

A year after the creation of the gameboard, in June of 1997, I brought it with me to the Today Show where Styx was performing, hoping I might get it autographed. My friends who were standing closer to the band than I was offered to hold it up so they could see it. Well, not only did Dennis DeYoung autograph it that morning, the Today Show used a close-up of the gameboard as a bumper shot going to/from commercials! Then I was told to bring it to the Holmdel, NJ show that evening... hopefully the rest of the band could sign it. Needless to say, after the show I had the opportunity to take it backstage and have the members of the band autograph it. What an experience!
